The Irish Discworld Convention 2009 was born out of a conversation between like minded people – isn’t that a scary thought? What’s even scarier, is that these people were sober! Although we’ll say nothing of the sleep deprived state of said people.
Said conversation occured at the Discworld Convention 2008 at the Hilton Hotel, Birmingham, where, looking around at the weirdness, the strangeness and the merriment going on around them, these people looked at each other and said “Why don’t we have one of these in Ireland?”
Their fate was sealed.
Even before they had left the hotel that weekend, the “Mad Irish Girls” had secured a Tech Guy, a webmaster and several promises of attendances. We were on a roll.
Of course much time has passed and many changes have occurred since then. The web mastering has changed hands, the promises of attendances have been upped to vague threats of bodily harm if certain people can’t make it etc etc…
In the meantime the ConCom has taken shape, the membership list has been gathering people unto itself and this “thing” is more than a reality.
We try and take it all in stride.
