We’re going to need to change our adverts…
Guests
We have good news!
We have some confirmed guests. Ian Stewart and Jack Cohen have both confirmed that they will be at IDWCon09 – now we just have to think of something for them to do…
Also, Mr Terry Pratchett OBE has confirmed he will be a Guest of Honour, health permitting.
Stay tuned – more updates will be coming very soon.
Committee Members
Organisation of the first ever Irish DiscWorld Convention is proceeding apace, but we’ve come up against some obstacles – namely, we’re running out of people.
If you have any experience of running a fan convention, and/or you want to get involved, please contact Nicola and Mary-Ellen, and let them know.
Positions we currently need to fill:
- Dealer liaison
- Ops Manager
- Gopher Chief
- Head Watchman
- Stage Manager/Head of Productions
- Membership Secretary
Games and Events
We’ve been thinking hard about the dates, and looking closely at hotels – we should have more definite information about them both soon.
We’ve also been planning things that will actually be happening at the Con. There’s plenty of fun & games laid out for you:
- Borogravian Nugganites
- Unseen University Challenge
- Walk the Walk
- Twister
- Would the Real Vetinari Please Stand Up?
- DW Folk Dancing
- Gonnagle Poetry
- and game of Thud and Cripple Mr Onion will also be available to play
Of other events over the weekend, we have decided on:
- A céilí
- A posh dinner
- Musicians’ corner (music with rocks in)
- Dressing up thingies for adults and kiddies
- a play
- and all the usual ceremonies and interviews and talks.
Keep checking here for more updates and announcements!
Hard at Work
So yes, the committee has been hard at work these past few days organising the different aspects of the convention.
Here is what we have so far…
- Volunteers for tech for various events.
- A web-designer working on getting us our own official page.
- A writer taking a look at one of the various plays adapted from pTerry’s books by Stephen Briggs.
- One hotel looking desperately for our business (they heard just how big this will get).
And what we are currently working on:
- The attendance of the Man Himself (Mr Terry Pratchett).
- The attendance of other special guests.
- Even more hotel prices – we are working on the most competitve prices for you!
- A preliminary events lists.
What we need:
YOU
This Con will not be as good, as exciting, as fun-filled, if YOU are not there!
We need your ideas, suggestions, comments and arguments.
But most importantly, we need you to join the friends list of The IDWC.
NOW!
The Irish DiscWorld Convention (IDWC) 2009
This page is the first contact for those who need and want an Irish Discworld Convention.
Having been to the DiscWorld Convention 2008 in the UK, it was decided that there should be an Irish equivalent. As in it was suggested to us and we took it seriously.
This is where we will be looking for suggestions, ideas, comments, et al.
So please, check back regularly for news and information.
At the moment all we can tell you is that we hope to have it in late October 2009 in Co. Clare. The reasoning for this is that anybody hoping to fly over (and we do already have people from England looking to come) will be able to fly into Shannon quite easily.
So let us know: do you want to come or do you know anyone who wants to come?
